DTF Instructions

Watch our DTF Transfer Pressing Instructions Tutorial Video for a simple but detailed guide.

To ensure your DTF transfer looks professionally pressed every time, follow these five simple steps:

  1. No Need To Pre-Press Or Pre-Iron: Removing moisture is unnecessary. Only perform a prepress if you desire. For further guidance on setting up your press, check out our DTF Printing - Convert A Low Resolution 72dpi to High-Quality Print.
  2. Position Your Design: Carefully align your transfer on the item. While heat-resistant tape is not needed for flat heat presses, it is advisable when pressing transfers onto hats or using an iron. For precise positioning, consider using our DTF Alignment Ruler Set, available in our Heat Pressing Techniques tutorial.
  3. Press: Apply the transfer with medium pressure at 300°F / 149°C for 7 seconds. The transfer will not be damaged by using more heat, pressure, or time — within reason. Always test first and use parchment paper or a protective guard sheet to safeguard your garment. Refer to our guide on Best Heat Press for DTF under $300!! PART 1 for more about selecting the right equipment.
  4. Let It Cool, Then Peel: Allow the transfer to cool to the touch (minimum of 10-12 seconds). Utilize cooling fan or old magazine to expedite cooling (its FREE). Begin peeling from one corner gently; observe carefully to ensure complete adherence. If any part fails to transfer upon cooling, repress with added pressure and time. For adjusting heat settings, see our video on DTF Black Powder vs White Powder.
  5. Final Press & Wash Instructions: After repressing, cover the design with parchment paper or a T-shirt material layer and press again for 7 seconds to soften the design, enhance durability, and reduce shine. When washing, turn the shirt inside out, use cold water, and choose low heat or hang drying. Learn about heat settings in this video. Watch here.

Recommendations

Vector Files:
Definition: Vector files are created using lines and shapes that are based on mathematical formulas.
Simple Explanation: Vector files are like smart drawings that can stretch or shrink without getting fuzzy or losing sharpness. They’re always clear and crisp, no matter how big or small you make them, like a rubber band that can expand and never lose its shape.

Raster Files:
Definition: Raster files are made up of tiny dots called pixels.
Simple Explanation: Raster files are like mosaics; each tiny dot is a color that adds up to make a picture. If there are more dots per inch, which we call "300 dpi", the picture looks really clear, even when it's big. But if there aren’t enough dots, the picture looks blurry when you stretch it out.

For the best possible DTF transfer prints, we recommend uploading high-quality vector files or raster files with at least 300 dpi.
